Preparation Strategy for Bihar Judicial Service Exam

Exam Structure

The Bihar Judicial Service Exam consists of three stages: Preliminary, Mains, and Interview. Each stage has its own requirements and challenges that candidates must understand and prepare for accordingly.

1. Preliminary Exam:

  • Syllabus: The Preliminary exam includes two papers - General Knowledge (GK) and Law. For GK, focus on subjects like History, Science, and Current Affairs. Utilise resources like NCERT books and Lucent's General Knowledge. For current affairs, refer to sources like GK Today and read newspapers like The Hindu and Indian Express regularly.

  • Law Preparation: Emphasise studying Bare Acts and practising multiple-choice questions (MCQs) extensively. Understanding the fundamental principles and frequent revision are crucial.

2. Mains Exam:

  • Syllabus: The Mains exam covers various law subjects along with General Knowledge, Science, and optional subjects. Prioritise building a strong foundation in each subject and practice answer writing regularly.

  • Answer Writing: Develop a clear and structured approach to answer writing. Begin with a strong introduction, followed by a well-organised body, and conclude effectively. Practice writing answers to previous years’ questions and get feedback from peers or mentors.

3. Interview:

  • Preparation: The interview tests not only your knowledge but also your personality and confidence. Reflect on your entire journey, including academic achievements and extracurricular activities.

  • Presentation Skills: Work on presenting your thoughts clearly and confidently. Mock interviews and discussing current legal issues can be beneficial.

Study Materials and Resources

  • Books and Notes: Keep your study materials limited and focused. Quality over quantity is essential. Use standard textbooks and reliable notes for each subject.

  • Online Resources: Leverage free online resources like educational YouTube channels, websites offering previous years’ question papers, and legal blogs.

Practical Tips

  • Time Management: Create a realistic study schedule that covers all subjects and allows time for revision. Stick to this schedule diligently.

  • Consistency and Practice: Regular and consistent practice is key. Dedicate time daily to study and practice, especially focusing on weak areas.

  • Self-Assessment: Periodically assess your preparation level through mock tests and practice papers. Analyse your performance and work on areas needing improvement.

Motivation and Mindset

Maintaining a positive attitude and staying motivated throughout the preparation period is crucial. Embrace challenges as opportunities to improve and keep your long-term goal in mind. Surround yourself with a supportive environment that encourages consistent effort and dedication.
